Court Information

Rhode Island

When you file for divorce, your attorney will work with the family court assigned to the county you live in. The clerk’s office is where the process begins. You can contact them directly to get information on the divorce process and court paperwork, but your attorney, if you use one, will likely be doing this for you.

RHODE ISLAND HAS AN ONLINE DIVORCE HELP DESK

The Family Court’s virtual clerk’s office allows the public to remotely conduct business traditionally conducted at the counters in the courthouses.

The virtual clerk’s office can be reached from any electronic device having a microphone and audio-visual capabilities including a smart phone. You will be able to speak with a clerk face to face in real time and obtain assistance without having to enter a courthouse.

Additionally, you can also email them at virtualfamilyclerk@courts.ri.gov . The virtual clerk’s office will be open from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during the days that the court is open for business.
